Pokemon 2DS
Nintendo has announced a new limited-edition Nintendo 2DS in a range of Pokemon colours.
If you weren't already depressed enough at the festive weight gain, lack of daylight, and prospect of going back to work, then get this: Pokemon is approaching 20 years old.
To mark the occasion, Nintendo is launching remakes of the original Gameboy Pokemon games - so that's Pokemon Blue, Red, Green, and Pikachu Yellow - for its current 3DS handheld.
Accompanying these jazzed-up classics will be a limited-edition range of coloured Nintendo 2DS handhelds. These will take on the appropriate hues of each of the original Pokemon versions, with a slightly see-through twist.
This appears to be a Japan-only deal for now, and it'll be a particularly significant one for the home of Pokemon. This will be the first time Japanese gamers have seen the Nintendo 2DS at all in any colour.
We shouldn't feel too left out here in the West, then. Plus, we've already seen theblue and red 2DS editions in Europe. They accompanied the launch of the last Pokemon game.
The Nintendo 2DS is an affordable version of the Nintendo 3DS handheld with no hinge system and, more significantly, no 3D element. They should prove to be the cheapest way to get some retro Pokemon kicks in the New Year.
Nintendo's new 2DS Pokemon bundles will launch in late February.
