Amazon Adds 3 Million Prime Members Before Christmas

Amazon had a very good Christmas. It has announced some figures that show that the online retailer is all about fast shipping. And all about that Prime membership. It’s celebrating a record=setting holiday for Prime.

The $99 per year membership program saw more than three million new members join from across the globe during the third week of December alone. Amazon shipped over 200 million more items for free with Prime over the holiday season.

The $99 Amazon Prime membership gives you free two-day delivery on millions of items as well as access to the company’s huge library of entertainment content which includes movies, TV shows, music. There is also free cloud storage and more. It is expensive,but it has it’s benefits.
On a related note, Amazon says that Prime members made The Man in the High Castle the most watched TV season on Prime Video. Members also doubled their total viewing hours on Prime Video compared to last year. So all things considered, this was a great year for Amazon Prime.

The company also sold millions of devices with the new Fire tablet becoming the $1 best-selling, most gifted and most wished-for product across the huge variety of items available on Amazon. Tis the season for Prime.

Amazon adds three million Prime memberships in lead-up to Christmas

Amazon claims to have added three million Prime memberships in the run up to Christmas.

This being 2015, not all popular Christmas presents this year will have been physical. We suspect that digital subscriptions will have been rather popular.

One such service that certainly appears to have been popular is Amazon Prime, the online retailer's core all-in-one subscription offering. Amazon has just announcedthat it added three million Amazon Prime subscriptions during the third week of December.

Of course, a number of these subscriptions will likely have been from last-minute panic-buyers wanting quick and cheap gift deliveries just before the big day itself.

More importantly, as GeekWire established, Amazon doesn't distinguish between paid subscriptions and free trials here. There's no way of telling how many of those three million will stick with it and actually make Amazon money.

What's more, Amazon still hasn't revealed any details on how many Amazon Prime subscribers there actually are overall, beyond "tens of millions." This makes it hard to put the new 'three million new subscribers' claim in context.

It's even tricky to compare Amazon Prime's Christmas 2015 performance to previous years. Last year, for example, Amazon claimed that it attracted ten million new members during the holiday season. That might be a higher number, but it's also a much broader (and more vague) time period.
