Samsung introduced the first 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM memory for smartphones

Samsung started mass production of 4GB LPDDR4 DRAM modules for smartphones two years ago. Currently, on the market, you can find devices that are equipped with 6GB RAM. Korean manufacturer plans to further improve the capabilities of our gadgets and introduced the industry’s first smartphone 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM memory. The new modules are manufactured with 10-nanometer technology, according to PhoneArena

The company explained that the modules operate at 4266MHz, which is two times the value of DDR4 memory we use in laptops and PCs. Future devices with 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM to Samsung will be able to play video in 4K resolution and virtual reality applications. Despite the doubling in capacity of the new memory consumes the same amount of energy as the last 4GB LPDDR4 DRAM models.

The dimensions of the chips are 15h15h1 millimeters. Each of them includes four 16Gb LPDDR4 DRAM module. The premiere of this product is a sure guarantee that very soon 8GB RAM will become the standard for today’s smartphones and tablets. Samsung will further reveal the details when will enable leading manufacturers to test new chips. It is likely the first devices with them to occur next year.
