Microsoft Acquires Talko To Improve Skype For Business

Microsoft today announced that they have acquired the Talko company with the aim of improving the services for teams and groups that use their Skype communication service.

Talko, developer of an innovative mobile application for on-the-go business communicationsHas now been acquired by Microsoft and Talko employees will join the Skype team.

Gurdeep Singh Pall, Corporate Vice President, Skype explains :

I am pleased to announce today that Microsoft has acquired technology from Talko, maker of an innovative mobile app for on-the-go business communications. As part of the agreement, Talko employees will join the Skype team. Together, the new technology and talent will help us deliver great new features and capabilities in both Skype and Skype for Business.

I welcome the new team members and am excited about how Talko will fuel more innovation atMicrosoft, whether it is enhancing the way family members stay in touch with Skype or building on the new Skype for Business services within Office 365. This is another example of our company ambition to reinvent productivity and business processes. We continue to invest in new technologies to empower people to more effectively communicate and collaborate across their personal and professional lives.

Those of you who’ve used Talko on a daily basis have shaped the product and its interfacedesign. We’ve loved the many conversations we’ve had with you as the product has evolved. You’ve told us how wonderful and effective it’s been to “show & tell” with your teams and families, and how you use your voice to get things done. We’ve been particularly taken aback by how the product has been embraced by the vision-impaired; this was truly unexpected.

As the Talko service sunsets over the next several months, which it will by March 2016, please rest assured that we’ll be giving you a way to request an export of all your past Talko conversations – voice, text, and photos – as simple files. Looking forward, we hope to hear from you again as we find ways to deliver the best of Talko in Skype.
