Tablet from Jolla at Sailfish 2.0 - born to fly cannot swim

Tablet from Jolla at Sailfish 2.0

Today I got a pretty clear impression that the astrologers declared a week Finnish tablets, significantly increasing their growth. Yesterday my first Android-tablet called N1 showed Nokia, but today we saw the tablet from the company Jolla, which is just a couple of hours the desired amount collected on platform Indiegogo.

Offered tablet Jolla running proprietary operating system called Sailfish 2.0. The main characteristics of the same amount to 7.85″ display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536, 64-bit processor by Intel (probably the same as in the Nokia N1), 32 GB of memory, expandable, 5 megapixel cameras on the very small battery on 4.3 Ah.

The rest of the users are asked not only to sponsor the project, but also to help in its development. Jolla says that appreciates the views of their precious users and therefore will listen to the most popular offerings by adding them to a new product. With regard to finances, the first 1000 Bakers had the opportunity to pre-order the tablet for $ 189, and the next one thousand – $ 199. And it is transformed into the original goal of $ 380,000, which was recruited surprisingly quickly. Pre-order now available for $ 204 and is designed to offer 2,000 people. Estimated same price at the start of massive sales – $ 249.

One of the main pieces of the promised tablet – multitasking. The developers promise to provide the best possible experiments, showing all running applications on a single screen. So far it is not clear in what will be a revolution, but it will be interesting to look at the result.

By the way, I’m not sure that a successful campaign, which exceeded the goal of $ 380,000, at the time of this writing, typing $ 605,000, is an indicator of success. In the end, it comes a little more than 2,000 copies. And who knows how many of these will depart two thousand employees of the company or the Government of Finland Jolla, recently spoke about the fact that Apple is threatening their economies, killing Nokia. But in 2000 the tablet is not so much even for such a small country like Finland, which seeks to support domestic producers.

Looking at the two Finnish tablets, chronologically separated by only a day, we can see two radically different ways of development of the two companies, dating back to a single source. After Jolla is based come from Nokia.

In the case of Nokia N1 company has the most popular operating systems, the design of the most popular tablet, soldered it together and gave it to a Chinese manufacturer Foxconn, so they collected them, and sold at a low price.

Jolla also decided to develop its own operating system, establish production by Crowdfunding, and it is not clear exactly how the final product will be distributed.

Frankly, although I like Jolla, impressed with the way they choose features for their product and all that, I little hard to believe in the success of any campaign. As I once wrote that the dark horse in the world of mobile operating systems to break in any way significant position, it needs to have a very large financial reserve, or to do something really new and revolutionary that will change the user experience and make people want to buy their product. And Jolla has not yet seen neither the first nor the second.

So far, despite achieving goals products Jolla will remain exclusively for geeks, and possibly for the Finns, who want to support their own. The first deliveries are expected in May 2015.
