Microsoft plans to release a major update of its office suite for the Mac for 2014. This was reported by the German edition Computerwoche referring to the statement of one of the top managers of corporations on computer fair CeBIT, which is being held in Hanover.

The latest version of Microsoft Office for Mac was released already in 2010. Shortly after this division, working on the creation of office suite for computers Apple, was broken up, but in the current reorganization of the project again thawed. Now as a priority for the development of cross-platform Microsoft supports versions of Office, including the development of mobile lines.

The current version of Office for OS X actually causes silent horror: applications are not optimized for screens Retina, have a limited range of options, so working with them is extremely difficult. This is especially affects users whose activities are directly related to the constant interaction with an office suite from Microsoft. As a result, they have to go almost to the extreme – run Office for Windows using a virtual machine.

Long absence of a fresh version of Office successfully uses Apple , which is actively developing its own package of office applications iWork – Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Last fall, the company made them all free for new buyers of the Mac. Nevertheless, many will agree with me that the feature set Pages markedly inferior to the same Word.

It is noteworthy that Microsoft still has not released a sane Office application for the iPhone or iPad . Office 365 can not be called a complete mobile solution. Apple has this fared much better : the Corporation regularly updates its office suite for iOS.

Most likely, Office 2014 for Mac will be submitted not earlier than autumn of this year, unless, of course, the timing will not be re-shifted ostensibly independent of Microsoft circumstances.
