Intel has decided to postpone the anticipated date of the start of mass production of processors Broadwell, designed to produce at rates 14-nm process technology, for the first quarter of 2014.
This was announced by Intel CEO Brian Krzhanich during a press conference to discuss third quarter financial results. Earlier, the start of mass production of processors Intel Broadwell, focusing on hybrid devices “2 in 1″ and ultrabooks, scheduled for the end of this year.
Mr. Krzhanich explained the delay constraints in the form of a low proportion of usable products, but rather a problem with the density of defects on silicon wafers.
Now we have evidence that suggest that the problem is solved. At various stages of the development process are often unforeseen difficulties. That’s why we had to deviate from the schedule, – said Krzhanich.
He also added that the delay in the start of mass production of Broadwell in no way affect the release dates of the next-generation CPU – Skylake.
According to preliminary data, the processors Intel Broadwell will reduce the thickness and weight of modern laptops provide a boost in performance and extend battery life.
Despite the fact that PC sales for the third quarter reached the lowest level since 2008, Intel’s financial results exceeded analysts’ expectations. The processor giant made a cautious outlook for the current quarter and believes that the markets of Western Europe and North America have already reached the bottom.
