IDC lowers forecast of supply tablets in 2013

Research agency IDC revised its forecast for the supply of tablets in 2013.


Thus, it is expected that in 2013 around the world will be shipped about 227.4 million tablets. In previous forecast this figure was nearly 2 million units higher – 229.3 million principal reasons for the decline projected figure of supply plates called increased competition from smartphones with large displays and portable electronic devices, as well as an insufficient number of outstanding releases tablets in the second quarter of 2013 year. However, even with the lower projected figure, tablet shipments in 2013 will be 57.7% more than in 2012.


IDC also suggests that the tablets will gradually gaining popularity in the commercial sphere. In 2012, 90% of the supply plates were in the consumer segment and only 10% – for the commercial sector. In 2013, the share of supply plates to the commercial sector at 13% and in 2017 – 20%. Additionally, it is assumed that the share of supply tablets to emerging markets will gradually increase. Furthermore, it is expected to reduce the average price tablets.
